I required to attend?
If you have been accepted to UB as a student enrolled in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), you are required to attend the CADS Summer Program. More information about EOP and the CADS Summer Program will be forwarded to you.
Selective other students will have the opportunity to attend
based on sponsorship from their programs. Meanwhile, here are the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about the three-week summer session.
How long is the program?
The Summer Program is a three-week residential program that runs from July
12, 2008 through August 1, 2008. Students must stay on campus, and will reside in the residence halls, during the entire three-week program, including weekends.
Where will I be living?
Students in the Summer Program are housed in the Ellicott Complex on the North campus. As in the regular school year, there will be a Resident Counselor (RC) assigned to each floor. Students are assigned a roommate upon arrival.
What do I need to bring?
To enjoy the full complement of summer services and to make your three-week stay on campus comfortable and enjoyable, you should bring the following items:
- Medical Insurance I.D. card
- Personal Picture ID {e.g. driver's license, non-driver's license, high school I.D., green card, passport or birth certificate).
- 1 large suitcase and 1 carry-on.
And, for the residence halls:
- pillow
- blanket
- twin-size bed sheets and pillow cases
- swimsuit
- sun block
- calculator
- clothes hangers
- alarm clock
You may also wish to bring a small fan, a cellular phone, and a laptop computer and/or a personal CD/Stereo with headphones. Large boom boxes, televisions and water toys are prohibited. You should bring funds for any personal items you may wish to purchase. Remember, you have to return home for a few weeks following completion of the summer program. Storage facilities are not available in the residence halls during your brief stay away from campus. Travel light!
Where do I eat?
Meals are provided as part of your cost for participation in the program.
Is this only an academic program?
No. We have recreational and social activities planned. Some of the recreational activities include movie nights, basketball, volleyball, ping-pong, chess, pool and card tournaments. Social activities include picnics and an end-of-summer awards ceremony.
Can I get college credit for these summer classes?
No. The courses are designed to introduce students to the performance expectations and workload required in college. These are non-credit courses that will be graded and will appear on your academic transcript.
What if I have problems with any classes? Can I get help?
Absolutely! Summer Program faculty members are available and willing to discuss course material and much more. Also, each class will have one tutor assigned to it. The tutors will meet with each student for a minimum of 7 hours weekly during the Summer Program. Tutors are trained to assist students and have a vast knowledge of the subject area they are tutoring. You will meet regularly with your counselor and can discuss any problems or concerns you may have.
How do I know what my Student Number is?
You received your person number with your acceptance
letter. You can also look up your person number by logging
in to your MyUB
account.
