New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation and the CADS Summer Program

As a participant in the CADS Summer Program, an orientation experience will be integrated into the three weeks you spend on campus this summer.

While you are at UB, you will meet with faculty, staff and students from your academic department, discover what it means to be a contributing member of the UB community, kick off the UB Reads summer reading program, talk with upper-class students about what college life is really like, and learn about the many resources and services available to help you succeed.  Orientation and the CADS Summer Program complement each other, and as a result, you will be well prepared to thrive at UB in the fall.

CADS Freshman Orientation Data Form

To start preparing for life at UB, visit orientation.buffalo.edu.  On this site, you will learn how to submit your orientation data form and immunization records, as well as additional items you need to complete before arriving to campus. The CADS Freshman Orientation Data Form provides your advisor with detailed information about your academic background, interests, and concerns. It’s also the key to pre-registration for your fall-semester classes. If you do not have access to the internet, contact New Student Programs at (716) 645-6125 or 1-877-434-0665 (toll free).
Your Orientation Data Form will help us help you get started by giving us a detailed picture of your academic profile. The information is used to create small groups of students who have similar academic needs and interests. These groups are then assigned to certain fall-semester courses together—so when you walk into your first classes here, you’ll see familiar faces.
Once we receive the Data Form, we will:

  • Forward it to the appropriate academic advising unit based on your major. An advisor will then begin to formulate your fall class schedule based on your major and information in your Orientation Data Form.
  • Answer any questions you list on your Orientation Data Form.
